FREEZEPOP: KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN
ART DIRECTION, SOCIAL MEDIA, PROJECT MANAGEMENT, COPYWRITING, ETC...
So, a little backstory about my band — we've been doing this for nearly 20 years. We actually started running a record label previous to the band forming, so initially all our music was self-released. This is way back when people used to actually buy CDs (sounding like an old cranky person here, but you get it). We put out one album with a major-ish label, which was an *okay* experience, but we realized it would be smarter to go back to being DIY. Except then we were getting things like $2.93 royalty checks. But then crowdfunding became A Thing. So in 2016 we did a Kickstarter campaign to help raise money for our new album, and the response was amazing — I was initially really worried that we were overreaching with our original $30,000 goal, but we ended up hitting over $88,000!
It turns out that most people are unaware how badly musicians have been impacted by streaming services, so I wanted to highlight that $2.93 check and work it into the narrative about why we were asking people to help fund us (in a funny way, not like a "you guys are screwing us over" kind of way). The main video was a collaboration between all of us in the band (they're all very smart, funny, wonderful, etc.) and some other friends of ours: videographers, 3D modelers, people who had already run Kickstarters.

Seriously though, this whole process has been pretty incredible, it was really heartwarming that we could just ask our fans for help and they'd come through for us like they did. <3
